Computer Consultant

As a Hobart computer consultant, I need to know what it is your business is trying to achieve? What are your primary motivators? What do you want from my business? I offer a strong understanding of business focus having been heavily involved in 2 small businesses for several years, one of course my own. My skills range from strong knowledge of computing hardware, software use & installation, building systems, networking, security & the ability to listen. I can access good quality hardware for lower cost than you can get them in Tasmania. Most of my software focus is free, legitimately free.

System Design

What hardware do you need? What are your needs here? Do you need hardware for simple surfing & editing documents, scanning & printing images, games & multimedia, networks & security? As a computing consultant, I can help you with any or all of these needs, including designing, purchasing, installing the hardware. I can set up the Operating Systems whether Windows &/or Linux, linking the networks, whether hard wired or wireless.
How portable does your system need to be? What online services do you need? I'm a specialist on portability products & have worked extensively with netbooks, notebooks, mobiles & tablets. As a computing consultant, I can advise on using cloud services, current availability & security of cloud services.
I consult on printers (portables perhaps), scanners, faxes or multifunction centres (MFCs)
Office Layout Accessible design for best network capabilities, mindful of security threats & maintainable. Creating a tidy, stylish, yet usable environment
What software do I need? Would a combination of systems save money? Can your system run in Linux either completely or partly? Most systems can run completely in Linux. There is free software for most needs. Sometimes you'll need to combine software from both Linux & Windows. I've worked extensively with Windows consulting as a developer guiding the needs of users. Linux is my preferred system & my experience with Linux is over 10 years.

Isn't Linux hard to use? I can show you in 5 minutes why Linux is no harder to use than Windows for basic operating. The browsers for the Internet, Firefox & Chrome are just the same ias on Windows. Document editing is very easy & most of the Office competitors that run on Linux are no harder to use than Word, Excel or Powerpoint. Finding the program, really knowing which one to use takes a moment to learn & most are included in a basic setup. Ubuntu is especially designed to be as easy-to-use as possible.
What about support & upgrades? Linux's support is unchallenged nowadays & continues to be far & away the leader in all operating systems. Combining the two OSes has become a breeze compared to the past & is little more than just one OS.
What about security? What about hardware drivers? Linux is the most secure of the major operating systems in general use for small business systems & breaches are patched usually within hours. Most hardware today includes drivers for Linux & much of the older hardware is already catered for. There are some hardware that isn't covered but these are easily discoverable on Linux hardware forums.
